NILADRI PAUL

Niladri Paul [1964] who started his career as an art director with Ogilvy & Mather gradually transited to full time painting. A skilled artist he moved beyond landscapes and animals representation to archive from cultural mines particularly inspired by dance and music. In order to render the abstractions of movements, bhavas and rasas implicit in performing arts, his brush strokes took on a life of its own becoming melodious and rhythmic to convey the essence. Reinforcing this dimension of his technicality was the colour that took on a vibrance, verve and vigour through tonal modulations and
subtleties of shade allowing him space to play on his individual experiences of these traditions. Heightening the effects of his colours was the juxtaposition of whited that dramatically created an aura of movement and vibrancy. Says Paul,“As a painter I have been very keen on depicting movement. I want to research more on bhava (expression). It can be either figurative or non-figurative,”
